BAME Labour is the result of a protracted struggle to win Black Representation in the Labour Party through Black Sections, Black Socialist Society and then BAME Labour.

It is the outcome of an historical political settlement, supported by Labour’s Electoral College and carried with overwhelming support from CLPs and trade unions over three decades ago. The struggle succeeded with the election of four Black Labour Members of Parliament in 1987 – Diane Abbott, Paul Boateng, Keith Vaz and the late Bernie Grant.
